Silent Night

Six 'O clock news tells the story of a man,
He's a fast ball spitter with a golden past.
He came from the East with the hurricane league,
In an old cadillac and a pile of dreams.
He sold his car to go fight in the war,
Said "goodbye" to his mum, who said a prayer to the Lord.
She cried for the boy she leaves behind,
He's headed for the desert tonight.

Mary Lynn waits by the phone each day
She won't stray very far since her husband left
Baby learned to say "daddy" when he said "goodbye",
To go take his place near the desert line.
From the dust in his ears, to the sand in his shoes,
This sand hot slugger just hates to lose
He cried for the baby he leaves behind,
He's headed for the desert tonight

Silent night, silent night, silent night...
Silent night, silent night, silent night...

This woman's a fighter who's ready to be pushed
To the ends of her sanity but she can't look
The bedroom walls shutter like an empty sky
'Cause tonight he's gone and she knows why
She called and he came to her in her sleep,
She said "Please don't leave, won't you stay with me?"
He didn't look back when he walked through the door
All she said was "come back to me"

Silent night, silent night, silent night...
Silent night, silent night, silent night...
